NORTH AND CENTRAL WALES – MID JULY 1963
Mode of transport: my first spotting trip on my brand new 49cc Raleigh Runabout Moped (complete with a suitcase and one‑man tent on the small pannier)
SATURDAY 13th JULY
CRAVEN ARMS MPD (sub‑shed of 89A Shrewsbury)
GWR: 2251 Class 0‑6‑0 No. 3205 (86C Hereford). Grange Class 4‑6‑0 No. 6822 Manton Grange (86G Pontypool Road). 5700 Class 0‑6‑0PT No. 8702 (86C Hereford).
In store:
GWR: County Class 4‑6‑0’s Nos. 1017 County of Hereford, 1026 County of Salop. Castle Class 4‑6‑0 No. 5015 Kingswear Castle*. 4300 Class 2‑6‑0’s Nos. 7309, 7336.
*In WHTS Volume Two I wrongly published that 5015 was scrapped at Central Wagon, Ince, Wigan. In the November 2009 edition of The Railway Magazine there was an article published about (my) incorrect disposals information including 5015 which in actual fact was cut up at Ward’s, Broughton Lane, Sheffield. The reason for my error came about because of a report in the February 1964 edition of The Railway Magazine which stated that 5015 had been observed on route to Central Wagon. Other WHTS disposals errors highlighted in the November 2009 edition and subsequent releases included: 2876, 4907, 34034, 44134, 60886, 61177 and 61890. Again, all of these errors can be attributed to wrong information published in various railway publications.
Despite pointing out the above to both The Railway Magazine and the author of the articles I was never given the opportunity to ‘put the record straight.’
