SR Unrebuilt West Country Class 4‑6‑2 No. 34094 Mortehoe
Subject of a few admiring glances SR Unrebuilt West Country Class 4‑6‑2 No. 34094 Mortehoe, from 70A Nine Elms, rests at Derby (Midland) station with its coaching stock whilst the occupants visit Derby shed and Works. Mortehoe, along with sister engine 34045 Ottery St. Mary (rebuilt) had the dubious distinction of being the only two members of the class to be cut up at Woodham’s, Barry.

LMS (Stanier 3‑cyl) Class 4 2‑6‑4T No. 42500 and LMS Stanier (2‑cyl) No. 42472 in store outside Derby Works. Although similar in design both of these locomotives had entirely different futures. Spotters of varying ages mill around LNER A3 Class 4‑6‑2 No. 60107 Royal Lancer, from 34A Kings Cross, seen at the head of a Leeds to Kings Cross express. How this scene was soon to change.
