Lacking any other physical evidence or sightings in WHTS this photograph proves, in the photographer’s own words, that LMS Class 2 2‑6‑2T No. 41234 was indeed another ‘victim’ of Cashmore’s, Great Bridge. Seen here in the yard with a sacked chimney it is possible that 41234 had not long arrived from 8G Sutton Oak around 3.67‑4.67.

LMS Class 3F ‘Jinty’ 0‑6‑0T No. 47270
A trio of Great Bridge bound condemned locos are lined up at 21B Bescot on 17th March 1963. Leading the line‑up is LMS Class 3F ‘Jinty’ 0‑6‑0T No. 47270 (ex. 8F Springs Branch Wigan) behind which are two LNER B1 Class 4‑6‑0’s Nos. 61111 and 61150 which had been condemned from 41A Sheffield (Darnall).

LMS Class 3F 0‑6‑0T No. 47231
One of the last of the working ‘Jinties,’ LMS Class 3F 0‑6‑0T No. 47231, latterly of 16G Westhouses and in a bedraggled state, is hauled past Kingsbury Signal Box by a filthy Class 47 diesel (what an advert for modern traction) – destination Great Bridge on 23rd June 1966. However, due to developing a ‘hot box’, it was diverted into Whitacre Sidings.

The condemned locos depicted in David Lennon’s excellent photos taken at Warrington (Dallam) had arrived in Oxley Sidings by 4th February 1967 and await the call for their final journey. In the left of the frame is LMS Class 8F 2‑8‑0 No. 48002.

Hauled by an unrecorded LMS Class 5 4‑6‑0, its smoke and steam highlighted by the cold conditions, LMS Class 8F 2‑8‑0 No. 48367 passes Kingsbury Signal Box during the course of its one‑way trip from Burton‑on‑Trent to Great Bridge on 7th November 1966.

The ‘mark of doom,’ the ‘sacked chimney,’ belies the fact that LMS Class 8F 2‑8‑0 No. 48541, seen here at its home shed at 16E Kirkby on 13th September 1965, was to live on at the depot until June 1966 before being dragged unceremoniously in the direction of Great Bridge.

Midland Railway Class 2F 0‑6‑0 No. 58119
Another condemned ancient locomotive, withdrawn as early as May 1959, former Midland Railway Class 2F 0‑6‑0 No. 58119, looking somewhat the worse for wear, awaits its one‑way ticket to Great Bridge in a siding at 21B Bescot in 1961. Posing in front of No. 58119, like ‘big game trophy hunters,’ are Ray Franks and friend.
