SR N Class 2‑6‑0 No. 31855, of 72A Exmouth Junction, at rest out of steam near to the primitive coaling stage at 83H Plymouth (Friary) on a warm and sunny 29th April 1962. Coded 72D by the Southern Region, Friary was taken over by the Western Region on 23th February 1958 and closed completely on 5th May 1963.

SR U Class 2‑6‑0 No. 31633, allocated to 70C Guildford, coasts into Pokesdown station with a down stopping train bound for Bournemouth on an extremely hot 22nd June 1963. At this date in time, Pokesdown, where the track became quadrupled, was virtually 100% steam with the odd exception of a Hampshire Unit DMU – paradise!
